Nigeria’s Flamingoes humbled DR Congo 8-0 on aggregate to advance to the third round of qualifiers for the FIFA U-17 women’s World Cup.

The Nigerians, who entered the second leg with a 3-0 advantage, continued the onslaught when the sides met at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, on Saturday.

The flamingoes were in a different class, and they raced ahead in the fifth minute, courtesy of Opeyemi Ajakaye.

Ajakaye then established a tempo of dominance for the Nigerians as she scored her second and doubled the lead with a brilliant solo effort in the 20th minute.

Three minutes later, Oluwatumininu Adeshina added a third for Nigeria with a well-taken strike.

The flamingoes could have added another two to the scoreline before halftime, but they failed to make the domination count further as Ajakaye and Miracle Usani missed clearcut opportunities.

But the girls made no mistake in the 60th minute as Dah-Zossu Alvine set up Atume Doosur for the game’s fourth goal.

The ruthless flamingoes didn’t relinquish their hold on the game and added frosting on the victory in the 88th minute as Taiwo Afolabi wrapped a comfortable match with a well-placed goal.

The triumph sends Nigeria into the next round of qualifiers for the FIFA U-17 women’s World Cup in India in October.

They are billed to play Egypt in the next round, and the winner of the tie will advance to the final round of qualifiers, where the three African representatives will emerge.
