Nigeria’s Flamingos have qualified for the U-17 Women’s World Cup following a 6-1 aggregate victory over Liberia.
The Bankole Olowokere-led girls had defeated the Liberians 4-1 in the first leg of the encounter before beating their opponents 2-0 in the return leg at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Friday.
Harmony Chidi scored a brace to set a record of 13 goals in a qualifying series.
She scored her first goal of the game only four minutes in after speeding past the Liberian defence and toe-poked the ball beyond the flailing arms of goalkeeper Makula Konneh from a cross by Shakirat Moshood.

Chidi added her second goal in the 62nd minute when she lashed the ball beyond Konneh’s reach as Nigeria seized the ball from a defensive slip-up by the visitors.
The Flamingos scored a whopping 25 goals in the qualification series. They steamrolled the Central African Republic 12-0 in the second round of the qualifiers, while Burkina Faso was beaten 7-1 in the following round.
The 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup will be held in the Dominican Republic from October 16 and November 3.
