FLASHBACK: How defected APC rep blasted Buhari’s aides over cars bought for lawmakers

Until Thursday, Johnson Agbonayinma, member representing Egor/Ikpoba-Okha federal constituency of Edo state in the national assembly, was known as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Agbonayinma, who was in the Ali Modu Sheriff faction of the PDP, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after accusing the PDP of “shutting its doors” against him and other loyalists of Sheriff.

The supreme court had ended the leadership tussle of the PDP by recongnising Ahmed Makarfi as the authentic chairman of the party.

Makarfi tenure ended earlier in the month.

Agbonayima is the second PDP member in the house to defect to the APC this week.

In November 2016, Agbonayinma trended in the news after he granted an interview to TheCable on the decision of the green chamber to order 360 Peugeot cars for house of reps members when the country was in recession.

He had defended his colleagues by saying even personal assistants to President Muhammadu Buhari were driving jeeps.

The lawmakers budgeted N3.6bn for cars in 2016.

“Don’t ask me that kind of question; go and interview Mr President who is flying helicopters and jets,” he had said at the time.

“Don’t ask me about the house of reps ordering Peugeot 305 or 508 when the special assistants (SA) and personal assistants (PAs) of the president and ministers are driving Land Cruiser and Lexus jeeps.

“You have not even interviewed councillors and state house of assembly (lawmakers) who are driving jeeps.”

Can he still sing the same song now that he has joined the ruling party?
