‘Fly high with the angels’ — tributes pour in for Kobe Bryant

Tributes have begun to flood in for Kobe Bryant, US basketball icon, who died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California at the age of 41.

The NBA star was travelling alongside three other persons including Gianna, his 13-year-old daughter, on Sunday, when his private helicopter crashed. There were no survivors.

The basketball legend and his daughter were reportedly on their way to the Mamba Academy for a basketball practice when the crash occurred.

Fans, colleagues, celebrities, sports organisations across the globe have taken to social media platforms to pay him their last respect.

“Kobe was a legend on the court and just getting started in what would have been just as meaningful a second act. To lose Gianna is even more heartbreaking to us as parents. Michelle and I send love and prayers to Vanessa and the entire Bryant family on an unthinkable day,” Barack Obama, former US president tweeted.

Our country lost a great Basketball player and a wonderful husband to his wife and family. You will be sadly missed #KobeBryant and my thoughts and prayers are with your family, God gained another Angel in Heaven this afternoon may you RIP #Kobe and fly high with the Angels,” a Twitter user said.

All our thoughts are with the families of those affected by this tragic accident. You will forever be missed, Kobe,” AC Milan, Italian football club wrote.
