Flying Eagles get tough AYC draw

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria will play host Senegal, Congo and Ivory Coast in the 2015 African Youth Championship (AYC) in March.

The Flying Eagles defeated Tanzania 6-1 on aggregate and walked over Lesotho to qualify for the tournament which they have won a record six times with their last triumph in 2011.

The host are making their debut in Africa’s under-20s while the Ivoirians have reached the championship three times in 1983, 1991 and 2003.

The Congolese knocked out the defending champions, the Junior Pharaohs of Egypt, in the third round of the qualification in August courtesy of away goal rule.

Senegal and Ghana were the seeded teams for the draw of the AYC which took place in Cairo, Egypt on Sunday.

The final tournament will take place from March 8 to 22 in Senegal.
