Flying Eagles are Super Six champions

Nigeria’s under-20 team, the Flying Eagles, on Friday won the Super 6 invitational tournament in Abuja with a match to spare after they beat Dolphins 4-1.

The Flying Eagles, who were invited alongside the national U-23 team to the competition, recorded an unassailable 12 points lead from four games.

The U-23 side are in second place on eight points, while Enyimba have seven points, and Kano Pillars are on four points.

Warri Wolves have three points, while Dolphins are bottom without a point.

Taiwo Awoniyi gave the Flying Eagles the lead after 24 minutes, off a through ball from Obinna Nwobodo.

They extended their lead in the 42nd minute through an own goal by Dolphins defender Jonathan Zikiye.

The Manu Garba-led team made it 3-0 after 49 minutes through Bernard Bulbwa, who bulldozed his way into the opponents’ box before slotting home coolly.

Dolphins reduced the tally three minutes later when Christain Pyagbara turned sharply inside the box before firing past keeper Olorunleke Ojo.

Dolphins’s Ezuruike in the 61st minute and Tijjani Adamu two minutes later were sent off for dangerous play.

In the 82nd minute, substitute Musa Yahaya saw his shot come off the crossbar with the goalkeeper well beaten.

The Flying Eagles scored a deserved fourth goal through substitute Chidera Eze.

The final match day is on Sunday when the Flying Eagles take on Dream Team VI in a formality match.

Warri Wolves will meet Dolphins while Enyimba will take on Kano Pillars.
