Again, gunmen abduct Jonathan’s ‘father’

Unknown gunmen have abducted Inengite Nitabai, the foster father of former President Goodluck Jonathan in Otuoke, Ogbia local government area of Bayelsa state.

A source told TheCable that the kidnappers whisked the septuagenarian away from his residence unchallenged, in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Anisim Butswat, police public relations officer in the state, confirmed the incident and said the police was trailing the kidnappers.

Nitabai was kidnapped in 2014 and regained his freedom after the intervention of security personnel.

Incidents of kidnapping are on the increase in the state, with Seriake Dickson, governor of the state, promising to devote more attention to insecurity during his second term in office.

Dickson’s younger sister was abducted in December, and she is still in captivity.

Serafina Otazi, the immediate past commissioner for local government and also a cousin to Jonathan, was also kidnapped in December, but regained freedom a month later.

Otazi was abducted in Otuoke while on her way to a funeral.
