Foreigner involved in Sudan crisis traced to Labour House, says Egbetokun

Kayode Egbetokun, inspector-general of police (IGP), says one of the masterminds of the Sudan conflict was traced to the headquarters of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja.

Sudan is currently experiencing a civil war triggered by a power tussle between two military factions in the North African country.

Egbetokun spoke on Monday during a youth summit organised by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). The event held at the Police Resource Centre in Jabi, Abuja.

The IGP said some individuals wanted to use the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protest to destabilise the country.

On the controversy over the raid of the NLC secretariat in Abuja, Egbetokun said he does not understand the “noise” the operation generated.

The IGP said police detectives traced foreigners to a shop within the Labour House, adding that the police did not raid the secretariat.

“We have intelligence at our disposal that some agents of destabilisation were ready to use the hardship protest to destabilise our country,” the IGP said.

“I’m not going to state the details yet because we are still on the trail of these individuals. Some of them are already out of the country, they immediately escaped. Some of them are even foreigners.

“One of them was traced to the Labour House the other day. I was just wondering why the noise about the raid of the Labour House, when the police did not raid Labour House.

“We raided the shop where the individual was using as a front. We have been monitoring his activities, he was very active in the Sudan crisis and he is in Nigeria mobilising people to destabilise our country.

“We traced him, our detectives raided his shop and recovered valuable documents. There is no need for noise about the raid of Labour House. We did not raid the Labour House.”

Last Wednesday, security agents raided the building in the Central Business District of Abuja.

The NLC had said the operatives who raided the building “claimed that they were looking for seditious materials used for the #EndBadGovernance protests”.
