Nicola Sturgeon, former first minister of Scotland, has been arrested over allegations of financial misconduct in the Scottish National Party (SNP).
The first minister of Scotland is the head of the government, chairs the cabinet and is primarily responsible for the formulation, development and presentation of policies.
The Scottish police confirmed Sturgeon’s arrest in a statement on Sunday.
The statement said she had been arrested as a suspect in connection with the ongoing investigation into the funding and finances of the SNP and is being questioned by detectives.

“A report will be sent to the Crown office and Procurator Fiscal Service,” the statement added.
Sturgeon’s arrest comes a few months after Peter Murrell, her husband and the former chief executive of the SNP, was arrested at their home in Glasgow.
Sturgeon, who quit as first minister and SNP leader in early April, is the third person to be arrested as part of operation Branchform, the Police Scotland investigation into allegations that the party misspent more than £600,000 in donations for an independence campaign.

She is also the longest-serving first minister and was the first woman to hold the position.
