The Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation, a philanthropic non-profit organisation, has announced a nationwide call for nominations of primary healthcare centres (PHCs) due for revitalisation in Nigeria.
In a statement on Thursday, the organisation said the initiative, facilitated by the Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria (PSHAN), is part of the adopt-a-healthcare-facility programme (ADHFP).
The foundation said the initiative seeks to revitalise primary healthcare centres in Nigeria.
“Having already revitalised four healthcare centres in Edo state and with plans for 14 more in the state, the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation is now reaching out to the public to nominate additional primary healthcare centres in local government areas across Nigeria that are in urgent need of revitalisation,” the statement reads.

“The nomination campaign will run from November 4th to December 31st, 2024.
“Primary healthcare centres are indispensable to community health, providing essential services such as immunisations, maternal care, and disease prevention.
“Yet, despite the existence of over 30,000 of them nationwide, approximately 80 percent lack the resources necessary to deliver basic healthcare services.

“This gap leaves millions vulnerable, particularly women and children. Alarmingly, Nigeria’s maternal mortality rate remains one of the highest globally, with 1 in 22 women facing a lifetime risk of death due to pregnancy or childbirth-related complications.
“The ADHFP exemplifies an innovative public-private partnership that empowers individuals and organisations to adopt primary healthcare centres, driving improvements in infrastructure, equipment, and staffing.
“This collaboration aligns seamlessly with national healthcare objectives and reinforces the government’s agenda to strengthen primary healthcare systems across Nigeria.
“The Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation encourages all members of the public, health stakeholders, and local communities to actively participate in this transformative initiative by nominating primary healthcare centres that require revitalisation.

“This is a unique opportunity for communities to advocate for their healthcare needs and play a vital role in shaping the future of healthcare delivery in Nigeria.”
Nonye Egekwu, director of health philanthropy at the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation, said “revitalising our primary healthcare centres is essential for addressing Nigeria’s healthcare challenges at the community level”.
“Through the ADHFP, we are dedicated to transforming these centres into world-class facilities capable of providing essential care and support to Nigerian families,” she added.
