Four away teams win in opening NPFL fixtures

It was a massive result for four away clubs in the opening day of the Nigeria Professional Football League 2016 season, as they recorded victories outside their home grounds.

Newly-promoted MFM FC was the biggest winner of the day, winning to 2-1 in Lafia to end Nasarawa United’s 61-game home run without a defeat.

Lobi Stars, who escaped relegation by a whisker on the final day of last season, also recorded a heartwarming victory in Ibadan against Shooting Stars, scoring the only goal of the encounter at the Adamasingba stadium, Ibadan.

It was also a 1-0 away win for IfeanyiUbah FC against Giwa FC in Jos, while Wikki Tourists similarly won the battle of the Northern teams as they defeated El-kanemi Warriors 1-0.

CHAN Eagles striker Prince Aggrey’s last-minute goal helped former champions, Kano Pillars, come from behind to defeat Rangers International 2-1 inside the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.

Rivers United compounded Enyimba’s woes since winning the league, beating the Aba side 1-0 in Port Harcourt. Enyimba has not scored a goal in their last four games in all competition.

The league champions recently lost the Charity Shield on penalties to Akwa United. The team also lost their Champions League preliminary first round game against Vipers of Uganda.
