France exempts Nigerian players from quarantine after international duties

The French ministry of sports has ruled that foreign players in Ligue 1 and 2 will not need to be quarantined after returning from international duties.

“We confirm that international players returning from official competitions outside the EU with their national team, whether French or foreign, are exempt from the seven-day waiting period as long as they comply with a strict sanitary and medical protocol (bubble + daily PCR test on their return to their club),” Reuters quoted the sports ministry as saying over the weekend.

“They will therefore be able to train and play without the application of a seven-day delay.”

The latest development overrules the earlier policy that imposed a quarantine on foreign players returning from international duties outside the European Union zone due to the novel coronavirus.

The initial travelling restrictions in France had forced the withdrawal of Moses Simon from the Super Eagles squad to face Lesotho and Benin Republic.

The new development, however, means that any future Super Eagles’ invitation to Nigerians playing in French leagues won’t be waived by their clubs.

TheCable had also reported how Sadiq Umar and Kenneth Omeruo withdrew from Nigeria’s next AFCON qualification games due to COVID-19 fear.
