From BBA to marriage proposal, it’s Elikem and Pokello

Elikem proposing on stage

Big Brother Africa, The Chase housemates, Elikem Kumordzie  of Ghana  and Pokello Nare of Zimbabwe, developed a very strong bond while at the house, so their engagement on Saturday is little surprise to those who watched their love blossom even when the show ended.

While the two were presenting an award at the Ghana Music Awards held in Accra, Ghana, Elikem proposed on stage .

They were quite different from the other couples who started out early in the house. They were mostly on their own, exchanging personal information and planning their best strategies for survival in the house. They were soon seen as being in a world of their own; and for that reason, they were somewhat despised by some housemates. They ultimately became the ‘Power couple’.

Something else set them apart. Although, it was obvious they had strong feelings for each, they made conscious effort not to be too affectionate towards each other. It must be said, though, that this principle may be connected with the leakage (two years ago) of Pokello’s sex tape with then boyfriend, Stunner (a known Zimbabwe Rapper). It was clear she was wary of creating another scandal, knowing full well that Africa was watching her.

They had a couple of stolen kisses under the blanket, bathed together, and spent enormous time together in the Jacuzzi, mostly alone but never really getting sexually explicit, despite having a moment of intense smooch while spying on another couple enjoying a ‘private’ moment’. Yes, they were that mischievous!

Elikem’s proposal adds to the expanding list of successful BBA love stories that ended in marriage. Nigeria’s Kelvin Chuwang (BBA winner, 2009) and his former housemate, Elizabeth Gupta from Tanzania, tied the knot in 2011 and are now blessed with children.

Similarly, Meryl Shiwambane of Namibia and Mwisho Mwampamba of Tanzania, who met at BBA All Stars in 2010, fell in love and got engaged in the house. They got married after the show, and had a baby girl months later.

South Africa’s Quinn  sieber and Mozambique’s Jennifer Mussanhane from the BBA All Stars are also married.

A very happy Pokello tweeted about the lovely surprise thus:

TheCable congratulates the couple.
