FRSC: Children among seven passengers burnt to death in Lagos-Ibadan expressway crash

Seven passengers, including two children, were burnt to death on Sunday in an auto crash that occurred at Kara bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident to TheCable.

Florence Okpe, spokesperson of the Ogun state command of the FRSC, said the lone crash which involved a Mazda bus marked BDG993YG, occurred at 10:45 am.

Okpe said 22 persons were involved in the crash, out of which seven died while 14 others were injured.

She said those that died included two male adults, three female adults, and two male children.

“Twenty-two persons were involved in the accident. Fourteen persons were injured while seven died. One more person could be unhurt,” Okpe said.

Okpe said the accident was caused by excessive speeding by the driver and brake failure which led to the loss of control.

She added that the bus went up in flames after it crashed, leading to the death and injuries of its occupants.

Okpe said the victims who sustained injuries were taken to the hospital for medical attention.

“The injured victims have been taken to Lagos State Accident Emergency Center, Ojota while the corpses were deposited at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital Morgue, Sagamu,” she said.

Okpe said the commission would conduct a probe into the accident with a view to avoiding a reoccurrence.
