FRSC: We’ve arrested protester who joined NLC rally with special marshal’s regalia

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says the protester who joined the organised labour protest in Imo wearing the regalia of a special marshall is not an officer of the agency.

On Wednesday, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and affiliated unions embarked on protests across the country against all “anti-poor” and “insensitive” policies of the federal government.

During the protest in Imo, a protester was spotted among demonstrators putting on the regalia of a special marshal.

The special marshals are Nigerians who are in the volunteer arm of the FRSC.

Reacting to the incident, Evaristus Ebeniro, the sector commander of FRSC in Imo, told journalists that the protester was once a special marshal.

Ebeniro said the fellow, while serving as a special marshal was summoned over alleged inactivity and lack of commitment to duty.

He added that the protester did not honour the invitation and was therefore de-marshalled in absentia, in line with the rules of the corps.

He said the command had arrested him and recovered the regalia from him.

“The command hereby makes it categorically and unequivocally clear that the protester is no longer with the corps. He acted alone in that show of shame,“ he said.
