Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers state, says his administration will implement the judgment of the supreme court on the political crisis in the state.

On February 28, the supreme court affirmed the judgment of a federal high court that barred the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the accountant-general of the federation from releasing statutory monthly allocations to Rivers state.

The apex court ordered the Martin Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers house of assembly and other elected members of the house to resume sitting.

The supreme court also nullified the local government election held in Rivers state on October 5, 2024.

Speaking during the inauguration of the new judges’ quarters in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Fubara said his administration will obey the judgment for the good of Rivers residents.

The governor said the political crisis in the state has led to a waste of resources by the warring parties.

“The supreme court has given a judgment; my administration will implement the judgment to its fullest. The reason is clear; it is not about me, it is about the good of this state,” Fubara said.

“You can imagine the kind of waste that has taken place on both sides. These are monies that, if we had used them in the affairs of this state, there would have been a lot of things to show.

“I can assure you everyday that I have not done bad by my statement that nothing is too big for peace in this state. At the end of the day, it is about our people. It is not about me.

“It has not been an easy 16 months. What is important is that the interests of our state must be above personal interests.”

Rivers state has been enmeshed in political crisis following the conflict between Fubara and Wike, the minister of the federal capital territory (FCT).
