Sim Fubara, governor of Rivers, says the state’s internally generated revenue has grown from N12 billion to N27 billion monthly.

Fubara spoke on Friday when he hosted members of the house of representatives committee on public procurement.

The governor said the state is no longer borrowing to undertake projects.

He said his administration has achieved this by effectively managing resources, and ensuring accountability, and transparency.

Fubara said his administration will prioritise the interests and welfare of the people and will make significant investments in three main sectors — education, healthcare, and agriculture.

He said he is operating a transparent government and has nothing to hide, especially when it comes to accounting for public funds.

“All the projects we are doing, we don’t borrow, we are very transparent, we are not hiding anything. That’s why I boldly will say it, the least we do this period is N26 billion and N27 billion,” the governor said.

“The highest they were doing before is N12 billion and N13 billion. We will make sure we apply these funds to areas that will bring positive change — education, healthcare, agriculture.

“We will also do a few roads but the most important thing is these three items.”

The governor encouraged the committee to be upright and stand by the truth at all times.
