Fubara to swear in new Rivers LG chairpersons today

Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers, will swear in all newly elected local government chairpersons in the state today.

On Saturday, Adolphus Enebeli, chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), declared Action Peoples Party (APP) as the winner of 22 of the 23 chairmanship positions in the state LGA election.

Fubara had recently directed his loyalists to defect to the APP to contest the election.

Tammy Danagogo, secretary to the state government (SSG), announced the swearing-in ceremony in a statement on Sunday.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers had earlier cautioned against the declaration of the results.

Aaron Chukwuemeka, the Rivers PDP chairman, warned that announcing results could incite violence.

Victor Giadom, APC chairman in the south-south, said the party boycotted the election because of discrepancies with the existing laws.
