The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) says 215,277 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have so far been administered in the country.

In its situation update on Tuesday, the NPHCDA said the first dose of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine has been given in 29 states and the federal capital territory.

Nigeria began vaccinating citizens against COVID-19 on March 5 after receiving 3.9 million doses courtesy of COVAX, the global alliance against COVID-19.

However, the country has managed to administer an average of about 12,000 doses daily — whereas countries like the United States vaccinate over two million residents everyday.

The NPHCDA said Lagos leads with the highest number of doses administered with 58,461, followed by Bauchi (23,827) and Jigawa (20,800).

However, seven states are yet to administer a single dose, contrary to the four the agency had earlier announced.

The situation update listed the states that are yet to start the vaccination as Abia, Kebbi, Kogi, Niger, Oyo, Taraba and Zamfara.
