A female student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has been murdered in Lagos.

The student, identified as Christiana Idowu, was reported abducted earlier in August between Ikorodu and Yaba in Lagos state.

It was reported that the undergraduate was in Lagos to undertake her mandatory industrial training when she went missing.

BBC reports that the abductor had demanded a ransom of N3 million but the parents of the victim parted with N350,000.

Idowu, aged 21, was however killed in captivity despite paying the sum.

Ben Hundeyin, Lagos police PRO, told TheCable on Thursday that army operatives arrested a male suspect in connection with the case.

It is gathered that the abductor was apprehended with the aid of bank account details he provided for the ransom payment.

The suspect was tracked to a building in Ikorodu where he resides with his parents.

A smartphone belonging to the victim was said to have been found on the suspect.

Other identifying information includes transaction details relating to the kidnapping incident.

At the scene of the arrest, the victim confessed to killing Idowu and burying her in a shallow grave within his compound.
