Fast and Furious 7 has set the record for the ‘furiously fastest’ movie to rake in a billion dollars at the box office.
In just 17 days, the seventh installment of the Fast and Furious franchise has grossed over $260 million domestically and an additional $735.2 million in foreign ticket sales to tip it over a billion dollars.
As predicted by TheCable, the movie’s success can be attributed to fan’s desire to see Paul Walker’s tribute performance after his death in December 2013.
It burst past the previous record set by Avartar, the last Avengers movie, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II, which both made it to the billion dollar mark in 19 days.

With a gross collection of $1.009 billion, it now stands as the 18th highest-grossing movie of all time between The Dark Knight ($1.008 billion) and Alice in Wonderland ($1.025 billion).
The movie now has a realistic chance of matching expectations of becoming the third highest-grossing movie of all time, dusting the likes of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II ($1.3 billion) and The Avengers ($1.5 billion).
However, the new Avengers: Age of Ultron, which will open in cinemas on May 1 is expected to regain top spot over and above Furious 7 records.

It is already the most successful movie in the film company Universal Pictures history after shelling out a total of $190 million on its production.
