Fury to renew talks with Joshua after facing Wilder on July 24, says boxing promoter

Bob Arum, US boxing promoter, says Tyson Fury, his client, will renew talks about the unified world heavyweight title bout with Anthony Joshua after facing Deontay Wilder.

Joshua and Fury are initially expected to fight in Saudi Arabia on August 14 — but a US court ruling thwarted the plan.

The court hearing also held that Wilder had a contractual right to another rematch against Fury and that it must take place before the end of September.

In a chat with Boxing Social on Thursday night, Arum assured that Wilder won’t step aside from the bout while announcing the date and venue.

“The judge saw it differently. That doesn’t means he’s dishonest or incompetent but he just saw it different. It is what it is. So now, if you get knocked down like we did, you pick yourself up and Tyson will do that, and fight Wilder on July 24 in Las Vegas,” he said.

“There’s no chance that he [Wilder] will step aside. He doesn’t want to step aside except for a number that is very preposterous so the fight can end there. So the judge has said he has a right to the rematch and we are going to go ahead with it.”

Asked about his client’s reaction to the turn of events, Arum said Fury is furious about the situation and he is ready to pour out his fury on Wilder.

“Tyson [Fury] is not happy. He’s a man. But it’s what it is. And he’s going to take out his anger on Wilder, he tells me he’s going to knock him out quicker than he did the last time,” he said.

He also said that talks will resume with Joshua’s team after Fury had fought Wilder.

“I don’t think it’s going to be difficult – if they both win – to renew talks. We know all the ins and outs and it’ll come together really quickly. At least that’s my hope,” he added.

Joshua had recently labelled Fury “a fraud” as the British boxing rivals engaged in a heated war of words on Twitter over the doubtful heavyweight title bout.
