Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of Kano, says there will be no form of discrimination against any ethnic group in the state.
The assurance is coming at a period when issues like open grazing and farmer-herder clashes have created hostility between ethnic groups across the country.
Speaking in Kano at an event to mark his sixth anniversary in office, Ganduje said every resident of the state shall be treated respectfully, irrespective of their ethnicity.
He described the state as a “mini-Nigeria”, saying everyone is an “indigene”.

“We promise that everybody is an indigene of Kano State. No discrimination, no segregation,” the governor said.
“In Kano, we’re enjoying relative peace. Kano is peaceful. We will continue well towards sustaining this peace in a way that there will be no armed robbery, no ethnic clashes, no armed banditry, no insurgency.
“Nigeria is one and in Kano, we will maintain this principle of oneness of Nigeria, because Kano is a mini-Nigeria where everybody is recognised as an indigene.”

The governor has in the past described Kano as the safest state in the country.
