Everybody in Kano is an indigene, says Ganduje on quit notice

Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of Kano, says all residents in his state, inclusive of the Igbo, are indigenes.

Speaking with journalists at the All Progressives Congress (APC) national secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday, Ganduje said Kano would be an example of national integration.

The governor said in the bid to achieve this, the state government has abolished the terms “indigenes” and “settlers” as everyone is now an indigene of Kano.

“They said there not going anywhere and we too we told them that they are not going anywhere,” he said.

“So it is an issue that we in Kano want to show to be an example of national integration, therefore, in Kano we dialoguing with the people and in fact we have even abolished the issue of indigenes versus settlers.

“Everybody in Kano is an indigene of Kano but there are some indigenes of Kano with primordial claim elsewhere which is a fact.”

Speaking on Muhammad Sanusi II, emir of Kano, Ganduje explained that there was no compromise on the part of the state assembly as he was the one who wrote to them to discontinue the probe into the alleged diversion of his palace funds.

“I’m not aware of any compromise by the state assembly but I know that I personally wrote to them, asking them to discontinue the investigation because of so many requests by some highly placed individuals in the country,” he said.

“Clearly the reasons were mentioned in the letter to the state assembly and was widely published in the national dailies. We just had a successful Sallah celebration and it was peaceful.”
