Abdullahi Ganduje, the governor of Kano state, announced the dethronement of Muhammadu Sanusi from office as the emir of Kano.
This comes after a year of probes, charges and efforts to whittle down his power as emir.
According to a statement released on Monday, Sanusi was dethroned for “total disrespect to lawful instructions from the office of the governor”.
Social media has been buzzing since the news broke and TheCable brings you some of the comments being made:

1. The purported removal of Emir Sanusi is unconstitutional, unlawful & illegal. The Kano State Govt asserted in its Press Release that he’s dethroned for insubordination. By section 36 of the Constitution & the natural justice principle of audi alteram partem, a person accused..

Was majestically aggressive with a Southern President..
Couldn't handle a Northern governor. https://t.co/cfwuYppqkw

The man we fell in love with is called Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, and what’s made him the darling of the progressives is his characteristic public intellection. You can never take that away from him. There’s always a price to pay for refusing to play by the book of the Establishment. pic.twitter.com/ZLWTl1tJgO

Plot twist. It all works out for Sanusi. He joins the APC. Runs for President. Wins and succeeds Buhari. Ganduje no longer has immunity. And Dawisu quickly leaves for Harvard to do a "course".

He came to throne by the will of Allah & he's also leaving by the will of Allah through Ganduje.
He left his comfort zone to become Emir. Who knows Allah's bigger for him.
You will have to leave your comfort zone!!!

You are in shock how Ganduje got 2nd term…… So Buhari has become the electorate that voted him?
Chai, Buhari don suffer sha— Babajide #Culture (@MrBabajide) March 9, 2020
Buhari didn't intervene in this feud between SLS and Ganduje, he had the power to stop this mess from happening which clearly shows he was in support of it. One thing i assure Ganduje is that he will regret this.

Proven, again, that political stupidity is strongly pervasive in Nigeria's political space!
Other than that, this is 'good news'!
In a country producing more of a #Ganduje than a #Sanusi, it is counterproductive that Sanusi was long marooned as #Emir of #Kano under Ganduje!

The quest for supreme power will be what will tarnish the image of ganduje
A time will come even a little respect will not be accorded to him.

A governor caught on tape bribing contractors now dethroning Sanusi this country is a joke sha!
They say “He who must come to Equity must come with clean hands”, but Ganduje came to equity with his hands filled with dollars!!! pic.twitter.com/9dEyD1EcKK

The Man in Suit is what Nigerians need
The Man clothed in turban has half of his potential expended on the Northerners alone
My heart broke when he accepted Royalty bcos he is among few who this country needs to liberate itself
Ganduje is only doing God's work bt he will suffer pic.twitter.com/25hvyT5hB8— Comradeˢᵀ – #HardTruth (@iAGB4REAL) March 9, 2020
We live in a country where Ganduje who was seen in a clear-as-day video collecting bribes is still governor of Kano while someone like Sanusi is ousted as Emir of Kano. #Shame

Ganduje be fighting a local fight. See how he just elevated HRH Sanusi to become a potential Presidential Candidate.
Sometimes, not been able to control your political power can make you take blind decisions.

A governor can dethrone a king in Nigeria? This is new! We learn everyday.
Ganduje dethrones the Emir of Kano, Sanusi with no logical reason. However Ganduje is still walking free despite concrete evidence of corruption against him.

Instead of Ganduje to promote kano with intellectual like Sanusi he prefer to take him down and bring in novice/half educated prince who can not shine at the National or International stage. Sad, Kano is going Down, ganduje is a curse to kano pic.twitter.com/b8YYZ1Duru

Kano will rise again

But we all know that their is power in influence!

This country is a complete mess. so #sanusi had to be dethroned for disrespecting the Governor. at times I just wished I was not from this country. to me this Man #Sanusi is still one of Nigeria's finest. He that must come to equity must come with clean hands.#ganduje

I think there is conspiracy in Northern Nigeria to ensure poverty is predominant because Sanusi Lamido Sanusi speak against the alarming population of children without education and endemic poverty in the North, probably the reason for his removal as Emir #Sanusi #Kano #Ganduje
