Ganduje spoke with reporters on Tuesday, after meeting with a delegation of Ondo house of assembly lawmakers and the party reconciliation committee chaired by Bello Masari, in Abuja.

The chair said by suspending the impeachment proceedings against Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Ondo deputy governor, the state assembly has created an atmosphere for dialogue to continue.

“I have to thank the state assembly for agreeing to suspend the impeachment process and give room for a political solution to the problem,” he said.

“As the reconciliation chairman has mentioned, they haven’t met the governor and his deputy yet. But they met all the stakeholders. That was what warranted the meeting today.

“We believe that we will reach a political solution. APC, as a political party, is an institution that is indispensable to democracy.

“Therefore, apart from our basic function for recruitment of membership, elected officers and appointed officers, it is our responsibility to see that all the ethics of democracy are followed and crisis averted in our government, both at sub national level and at international level.

THE RIFT

Rotimi Akeredolu, Ondo governor, and Aiyedatiwa have been at loggerheads since his return to Nigeria after a three-month medical leave in Germany.

Aiyedatiwa acted in Akeredolu’s stead while he was away. Upon his return, however, Akeredolu sacked the media aides attached to the office of his deputy.

Thereafter, the house commenced impeachment proceedings against Aiyedatiwa who has since pledged his loyalty to the governor.

After interventions by different stakeholders, the Ondo assembly shelved the impeachment proceedings.
