Femi Gbajabiamila, chief of staff to President Bola Tinubu, says there is no timeline for the implementation of the Stephen Oronsaye report.

The recommendations of the report seek to cut down the cost of governance by scrapping and merging some agencies of government.

In February, the president directed the full implementation of the Oronsaye report to “enhance efficiency in the federal service, and reduce the cost of governance”.

A 10-member committee was announced in March for the implementation of the Oronsaye report.

Despite the plan to cut the cost of governance, Tinubu has hinted at the possibility of creating a ministry of livestock development.

Speaking with reporters in Abuja on Tuesday after visiting the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) headquarters, Gbajabiamila said the implementation of the report “is not as easy as it sounds”.

“Yes we have been talking about this for months now, but anything worth doing is worth doing properly. It is not as easy as it sounds,” the chief of staff said.

“A committee has been set and I’m sure very soon a full and final report will be out and implementation will begin.

“I can’t give you an exact timeline. We don’t want to sacrifice thoroughness on the altar of anxiety.

“It will be done soon.”
