The Gbemiga Abiodun Memorial Education Support Programme has awarded over N90 million in scholarships to 819 students.
Gbemiga, the son of Dapo Abiodun, Ogun state governor, died in 2017 after he was found unconscious in his car alongside a friend identified as Chime Amaechi.
In 2023, Abiodun set up a scholarship scheme for students in Ogun to honour his late son.
The scholarship is to support students in primary, secondary, and tertiary schools in Ogun state.

Cheques were presented to the heads of tertiary institutions and the parents of the students from primary and secondary schools.
Abiodun described his late son at the ceremony as “a serial entrepreneur who was full of life and extremely generous”.
He said the foundation has also launched a new category under the programme known as the “The Creative Students Category”.
The Ogun governor stated that his family would expand the number of student beneficiaries into other local government areas.

He revealed that with about 600 beneficiaries at the beginning of the programme, the scheme had added 400 more students across the same categories.
“Applications for this category will remain open for the next few months to identify potential beneficiaries,” the governor said.
“We will continue to increase the number of student beneficiaries and expand this programme from the three Remo local government areas where Gbemiga was from, to the other 17 local government areas of the state.”
In his remarks, Bola Oyeledun, coordinator of the foundation, said the scheme is also committed to supporting and monitoring the beneficiaries throughout their educational journey beyond the financial aid.
