Gbenga Ogunbote has resigned as the head coach of Sunshine Stars after a 16-game winless run.
The coach cited poor player welfare and low morale as his reason for stepping down.
In his resignation letter, Ogunbote complained about a “way off the mark” relationship with the leadership of the club during his second spell.
He demanded that all his outstanding fees be paid so that both parties can go their separate ways.

“Sequel to the above, I am constrained to tender my resignation letter due to results of the team in the last couple of months,” the letter reads.
“I took the job in the anticipation that we will continue where we stopped the last time I coached the team with all hands pulling together to support and the team having better results, however, on this occasion of my relationship with the team, the welfare of the team is way off the mark such that affects the morale of the players and collective motivations of the team.
“Players are my tools and my inputs to get results, results are what makes a difference in a successful coach which unfortunately is not happening this time.

“I hereby appreciate all and tender my resignation with this month’s salary forfeited in lieu of my notice, whilst I expect all my outstanding salaries, sign-on fees and bonuses be paid in due course for proper disengagement.”
Ogunbote returned as Sunshine Stars manager in September 2020 after quitting the club eight years prior.
They are currently 18th on the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) table and deep into the relegation zone.
