President Goodluck Jonathan has advised his ministers and aides to get prepared for persecution from the incoming government, saying he himself is fully prepared for the “rough days” ahead.
He said he had to take some hard decision in the course of running the government and he was ready to face the consequence of such decisions.
Jonathan was speaking on Sunday during a thanksgiving service organised in his honour at the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Cathedral Church of the Advent, Life-camp, Gwarimpa, Abuja.
“Some hard decisions have their own cost, no doubt about that,” he said.

“That I have run the government this way that stabilised certain things, the electoral process and other things that brought stability into this country… they were very costly decisions which I myself must be ready to pay for.
“I sympathise with ministers and aides who served with me because they will be persecuted and they must be ready for that persecution.
“They will have hard times, we will all have hard times. Our ways will be rough. So I wish them what I wish myself.”

Jonathan expressed appreciation to Nigerians for giving him the opportunity to serve, saying he could sacrifice his life for the country in return of all what he has benefited.
“I have to thank Nigerians, especially my state, for giving me the opportunity to serve as deputy governor and the whole country gave me the opportunity to serve as vice-president and then president.
“First was to complete the tenure of the late president and later serve as president from which I am exiting now as a very happy and fulfilled man.
“When I look at the whole picture of my life up to when I became the president of this country and I say that if soldiers and police officers that have not received 0. 5 percent of the benefits that I have received from the state can lay their lives for this country, I should do anything in the interest of Nigeria, including paying the supreme price.

“As long as live, I will continue to do my best for the state because the state has helped me as a person.”

President Jonathans leadership is Gods grace to Nigeria for the stability of our country. Our genuine prayers for our country was his coming and his exit. Those who persecute shall attract same to themselves. Our present challenges should be on how to lead Nigeria to the next level of development in the modern world.
I appreciate GEJ for the good he has done for this country. I just wish he would stop being sentimental about his misfortune and soliciting pity from tormented Nigerians. Buhari’s govt asking GEJ and his ministers to give good account of their tenure in office is no where near persecution
I quite agree
