Ghana has appointed former Chelsea manager Avram Grant to replace Kwesi Appiah who was sacked after the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
The Israeli was the preferred choice in a five-man shortlist to take over as the Black Stars coach that included former Italy midfielder Marco Tardelli, Spain’s Juan Ignacio Martínez and the German Bernd Schuster.
Agent, Saif Rubie, who brokered the deal, said the Israeli is excited at the prospect of taking over the job.
“We have had productive talks with the Ghana Football Associaton and they now see Avram as the right man to take the country forward,” Rubie told Sky Sports.

“Avram is looking forward to challenge of managing Ghana and once a few minor things are sorted out, the deal should be finalised.
“Avram cannot wait to get started and work with a country with a great history and potential in football.”
Grant will be in charge in Ghana’s final Africa Cup of Nations’ qualifiers away to Uganda on November 15 and at home to Togo on November 19.

Grant, who was Israel national coach for four years, moved to English side Portsmouth as technical director in 2006 and then to Chelsea as director of football, taking over from Jose Mourinho when he was sacked in September 2007.
His contract was terminated at the end of the season, despite guiding the Blues to the runners-up spot in the Champions League and Premier League losing both to Manchester United.
Grant returned to Portsmouth, but later quit and joined West Ham in 2010 but was sacked after they were relegated.
He went on to manage Serbian side Partizan Belgrade and will go to Ghana from Thai club BEC Tero Sasana in Bangkok, where he is currently technical director.
