Ghana hold Falcons to 1-1 draw

Ghana held the Super Falcons to a 1-1 draw in their second group game at the ongoing African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) in Cameroon.

The two sides had won their opening games, and a victory for either team would have secured a semifinal slot, but they would now be waiting for the final match of the group stage to determine who progresses to the next stage.

After a pass from Asisat Oshoala, Portia Boakye put the ball at the back of the net to put the Nigerian side ahead in the first half.

With the first half drawing to a close, the Ghanaian ladies restored parity from the spot after Halimatu Ayinde impeded an opponent in the box.

Elizabeth Addo made no mistake, as she put the ball beyond Alaba Jonathan in goal for the Black Queens.

Falcons missed many opportunities in the second half, but they were lucky that their opponent also failed to take advantage of their own numerous chances.

The Super Falcons will take on Kenya in their final group game on Saturday, while Ghana tackles Mali, which Nigeria walloped 6-0, on the same day.
