Ghana likely candidate for FIFA ban

The federation of International Football Federations (FIFA) has questioned the composition of a commission of enquiry to look into the performance of the Black Stars at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

In a letter to Ghana Football Association, the world football governing body said “the composition and competences of commission are unclear” and mandated the GFA to supply the details.

It looks like FIFA deemed the three-member body announced by sports minister, Mahama Ayariga, as an act of government interference, and the consequence could be an indefinite ban.

Ghana president, John Mahama, set up the commission with the powers of the high court to probe all activities surrounding the country’s participation at the World Cup, including the management of the senior national team.

The Ghana FA said it did not mind a government inquisition, but it must be within the confines of FIFA laws, in order to avoid further embarrassment for the country.

Ghana got ridiculed during the tournament after government airlifted US$ 3 million to settle the appearance fees of striking Black Stars players.
