Ghana president, John Mahama, has congratulated the Black Stars for a “gallant performance” despite losing on penalties to the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire.
The four-time African champions lost to Cote d’Ivoire through the lottery of penalties in Sunday’s Orange Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Bata, Equatorial Guinea.
And in a consolation message to the team after the game, Mahama wrote on his twitter account: “Kudos #BlackStars. Gallant performance despite our loss. You exceeded our expectations, going from zero to heroes. I am proud of you.”
In a repeat of the 1992 finals in Dakar, Senegal, Ghana lost 9-8 on penalties to the Elephants who have now won their second ever AFCON trophy.
