Nigeria’s young tennis prodigy Marylove Edwards has revealed that her goal is to be the best in her chosen profession.
The 14-year-old defied logic with her unprecedented achievement for a junior category player at the just concluded Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) senior championship in Lagos.
She was in the championship as a wildcard and was not expected to be among the dominant players but shocked everyone by defeating some of the top seeds and finished as the first runner-up.
Edwards hopes her performance will be a motivation for her to achieving her goal.

“The goal is to become the best,” Edwards said after the CBN senior championship.
“This is a giant leap for me and I hope to use this a motivation to get to the top.
“I am grateful to have a wonderful team behind me.”

Former Williams sisters coach, Nick Bollettieri had special things to say about Edwards after her one-week training at the world-famous IMG Academy in Brandton, Florida, US.
“Marylove is very different, a super athlete,” Bolletieri said. “Very handy. Only a few can get away with that style.”
Edwards who is ranked number 4 by the Nigeria Tennis Federation(NTF) in the latest women’s singles rankings is managed by Temple Management Company(TMC).
“The goal is to become a global champion and brand,” saud Koye Sowemimo, TMC head of sports.

“The 12-year-old is in top preparation for an African championship holding in the next few weeks in Tunisia.”
