GOC commends NYSC for ‘mentoring, training corps members’

HT Dada, general officer commanding (GOC) 82 division of the Nigerian Army in Enugu, has commended the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for mentoring corps members on leadership.

Dada also lauded the NYSC for its provision of skill acquisition trainings for corps members in order to make them self-reliant.

Eddy Megwa, director of press at the NYSC headquarters, in a statement, said Dada gave the commendation when he hosted YD Ahmed, the director general of the NYSC, in his office.

Dada described NYSC as a symbol of national unity, adding that the deployment of corps members outside their states of origin has exposed many graduate youths to different cultures, values and beliefs.

The GOC praised the NYSC director general “for positively transforming the scheme, highlighting the self-reliance of many ex-corps members and the positive impact of their service year”.

“We have no option… we are going to support you,” Dada said.

Ahmed thanked officers and men of the division for their immense support to NYSC secretariats, while soliciting for increased security assistance, particularly through patrols on NYSC formations and corps lodges.

Addressing corps members during his visit to the Enugu state orientation camp in Awgu, Ahmed warned them against night trips and indulging in any act that can endanger their lives.

Christianah Salmwang, the NYSC coordinator in the state, in her report, said the relationship between Enugu state NYSC secretariat and the government has been very cordial.

She attributed the success recorded so far to the synergy among the camp officials and corps members, comprising a total of 1,573 youth corps members — where 785 are male and 788 are female.
