Goje files motion seeking to restrain Gombe governor from ‘harassing’ his supporters

Danjuma Goje

Danjuma Goje, senator representing Gombe central, has filed a motion seeking to restrain Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, Gombe governor, from “harassing” him or his supporters.

In a statement on Tuesday, Herbert Nwoye, counsel to Goje, said the motion was filed in a suit already at the federal high court.

Nwoye said the governor was in violation of a subsisting order by the court which asked parties to maintain the “status quo” over their rift on issues bordering on the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

The lawyer accused senior officials of Gombe government of hiding behind the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) to humiliate and violate the rights of Goje’s associates and supporters.

“The state government of planning to re-arrest Muhammad Adamu Yayari, Goje’s new media aide, who was granted bail on Monday after he spent 20 days in detention over Facebook post,” he said.

Both men have been at loggerheads over issues of the APC in the state.

Last month, Goje was attacked while he was trying to make his way to the state capital.

The senator had accused the governor of unleashing thugs on him when he visited Gombe for a private function.

But the governor said the senator was trying to cause a “mayhem” and was stopped by the people.
