Eaglets seal World Cup ticket

The Nigerian U-17 team, the Golden Eaglets, defeated Zambia 3-1 to book a place in the last four of the Africa U-17 Championship, thus qualifying for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Four countries will represent Africa at the World Cup and this semi-final ticket guarantees qualification for the Golden Eaglets.

At the Stade Municipal Stadium, the Eaglets scored two first half goals to ease their nerves in the winner-takes-all tie.

A 35 minute strike from Victor Osimhen gave the world champions the lead.

Captain Kelechi Nwakali made it 2-0 for the Golden Eaglets a in the 45th minute – his third goal of the tournament.

Osimhen compounded the woes of the Zambians with his second goal, the team’s third of the day.

Paston Daka pulled one back for Zambia but it was a mere consolation as the Eaglets held on to the win.

The Golden Eaglets finished with seven points in the group after two wins and a draw.
