Gombe says disability bill will be signed before end of 2023

Zubair Umar, Gombe commissioner for justice and attorney-general of the state, has expressed the government’s readiness to sign the disability bill into law before the end of 2023.

Umar said this during a meeting with the leadership of the state chapter of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) in his office.

The visit was organised by JONAPWD with the support of civil society organisations (CSOs), stakeholders and the media.

“The bill will be meticulously reviewed by the Gombe state executive council and subsequently presented to the legislative arm of government for approval before the conclusion of 2023,” Umar said.

He commended representatives of the disability community for their support and loyalty to the administration of Inuwa Yahaya, governor of the state.

He implored them to remain committed to the policies of government.

Bala Jibrin, leader of the delegation and deputy chairman of JONAPWD, said the purpose of the visit was to offer congratulations to the commissioner on his reappointment as a member of the state executive council.

They presented a draft of the bill for onward transmission to the state governor.

Jibrin noted that when the bill becomes law, it will considerably help to address many problems facing PWDs in the state.
