Kano Pillars goalkeeper, Theophilus Afelokhai, wants to replace Vincent Enyeama as Super Eagles first choice in goal.

Though, Afelokhai concedes that Enyeama is the best goalkeeper on the continent, but the four-time Nigerian league winner hopes to achieve as much as the Lille goalkeeper – starting with his jersey in the national team.

“Vincent Enyeama is the best goalkeeper in Africa and I respect him. He has won the Africa Cup of Nations and I also want to win that for my country,” he told sl10.ng.

“I have been patient enough and I know my patience will give me victory. Everybody in the team is good enough to play and I know I am good enough. I really want to play, I don’t want to go there and keep staying on the bench. I can be the Super Eagles first goalkeeper and I want it.”

Afelokhai, who has been a fringe member of the Super Eagles, however, remains grateful for being considered for the national team in the first place.

“No good player will be happy not to play, but I am still happy that I have been invited and I have to wish whoever plays the best. My dream is to play for the Super Eagles and be the number one, but it is the coaches that decide eventually,” he said.

Afelokhai was voted the best goalkeeper in the just concluded Nigeria Professional Football League after helping Pillars to their third consecutive league title.
