Google introduces new AI-powered features for Android phones

Google has rolled out a suite of artificial intelligence (AI)-powered features designed to enhance the functionality of Android devices.

The tech giant says the updates will allow Android users to express themselves more authentically and bridge their digital experiences with real-world interactions.

This feature uses AI to enhance the Live Caption tool by capturing nuances like tone, volume, and environmental sounds.

Google says Expressive Captions will improve accessibility for social and live content, offering users more context beyond words.

“Today, we want to change that with the introduction of Expressive Captions on Android, a new feature within Live Caption that will not only tell you what someone says, but how they say it,” the company said.

IMAGE Q&A IN LOOKOUT

Aimed at blind and low-vision communities, the Image Q&A in Lookout now leverages Gemini 1.5 Pro to provide detailed image descriptions.

Users can take, upload, or open photos in the Lookout app to hear descriptions read aloud in a natural-sounding voice.

EMOJI KITCHEN

This feature allows users to combine emojis to create new, personalised emoticons.

QR CODE IN QUICK SHARE

This update simplifies file-sharing.

Users can generate a QR code for photos, videos, or documents, which others can scan to securely receive the file — without the need for contact verification or device pairing.

AUTO ENHANCEMENTS IN GOOGLE DRIVE

Google Drive scans automatically enhance contrast, white balance, and clarity while eliminating shadows and blurring.

This makes digital versions of physical documents like receipts and ID cards crisper, with no manual editing required.

GEMINI EXTENSIONS

Android’s Gemini AI is expanding its functionality with new extensions. Users can now integrate their favourite apps and services, such as Spotify, to play music and discover playlists.

The extensions also allow users to control device settings, send messages, make calls, and manage smart home devices connected to their Google accounts.
