Google has announced plans to acquire Wiz, a cloud security platform, in a $32 billion all-cash deal.

The acquisition, announced in a blog post on Tuesday, will see Wiz integrated into Google Cloud once the transaction is finalised.

Google said the acquisition is a strategic move to strengthen cybersecurity by improving security design, automation, and protection against artificial intelligence (AI)-driven threats.

The tech giant also aims to reduce security costs for customers and expand multi-cloud capabilities.

Sundar Pichai, chief executive officer (CEO) of Google, said the acquisition will provide businesses and governments with stronger security solutions and more flexibility when choosing cloud computing providers.

“From its earliest days, Google’s strong security focus has made us a leader in keeping people safe online,” he said.

“Today, businesses and governments that run in the cloud are looking for even stronger security solutions, and greater choice in cloud computing providers.
