Google, Uber, OLX managers to train 1,200 tech start-ups

The country managers of Google, Uber, OLX, alongside many other tech founders to train about 1,200 tech start-ups at the 2017 Founders Conference in Lagos.

The conference, which is gradually evolving as the biggest convergence of technology interests in Nigeria, is an annual event which intends to host 1,200 technology entrepreneurs, tech geeks, web application developers from across the country.

It also seeks to train technology business investors, technology enthusiasts and other innovation-driven business owners, at its second edition, slated for May 11, 2017.

The event organised by Venture Starter Limited will be held at Sheba Centre, Coza, Beside FCMB, Mobolaji-Bank Anthony, Ikeja, Lagos.

The maiden edition of Founders Conference held at Four Points By  Sheraton, Lagos in 2016. It had about 300 tech space players, entrepreneurs, speakers and tech enthusiasts in attendance.

Some of them were Henrietta Inwuegbuzie of Lagos Business School, Fikayo Ogundipe of Tolet.com.ng; Bilikiss Adebiyi Abiola of Wecyclers.

According to a statement signed Bunmi Jembola, the convener, the 2017 event is themed: Driving Change By Innovation.

The keynotes will be presented by Akin Oyebode, executive secretary, Lagos State Employment Trust Fund and Eyo Bassey, founder/CEO, Payporte.com.

Other speakers expected at this year’s event include: Maria Keshinro, country manager, Uber); Fikayo Ogundipe founder, Tolet.com.ng; Lola Masha, country manager, OLX; John Obidi founder, SmartBCamp; Julliet Ehimuan country manager, Google; Godwin Benson, founder of Tuteria.com, and the convener, Bunmi Jembola.

The organisers further stated that the objectives of the event this year include:

  1. Having about 30 innovative tech startup founders pitch their businesses to participants
  2. Connecting viable tech startup founders to willing angel investors
  3. Providing one-day high-value training from successful tech-preneurs
  4. Absorbing 10 very promising tech start-ups into our Venture Acceleration Program
  5. Creating a viable collaboration and networking platform for technology interests.

“Founders Conference was conceived as a platform for Nigerian technology startup founders to learn, network, pitch their ideas, gain better visibility and access viable fund providers,” Jembola said.

“We have no doubt we are on the right path to achieving the goals of the conference hinged on shaping the future of technology in Nigeria and by extension; the African continent.

“This year’s event, like last year will be again while a number of highly innovative technology products/companies will be exhibited”
