Bidemi Olaoba, the gospel singer, says he will be holding a concert at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) sports complex on May 23.

In a statement ahead of his concert, tagged ‘In His Presence’, Olaoba said he believes “music is the therapy needed to survive in Nigeria amid socio-economic challenges”.

Olaoba said his upcoming concert is one of “God’s ways to create an atmosphere that stimulates joy for the people”.

“If you look at the economic situation in Nigeria today, it takes grit and rugged faith to hang on and not give in to depression. But the consolation is that despite the hardship in the land, the Bible says in Philippians 4:4 that we should ‘rejoice in the Lord always’,” the statement reads in part.

“One atmosphere that stimulates joy is an atmosphere of music, not anyhow music but edifying and Godly songs.

“From the days of the Bible, music carries an atmosphere of therapy, music is therapeutic to all humans regardless of the challenges of life you are facing. David simulated an atmosphere of music and this became a therapy for Saul. David used music to encourage himself anytime he was at the low ebb of life. Music carries potency being that it stimulates joy.

“I believe this is one of the reasons God has laid my forthcoming concert in my heart. It will be an atmosphere of pure joy in the Holy Ghost, a place where people can come and dance away their sorrow and find strength to overcome while rejoicing in the Lord.”

He has recorded six singles and released two live performance compilations.

The energetic singer has also featured several other gospel artistes.
