Pay TV customers across Nigeria are in for good times as constant investment in innovation has made GOtv Nigeria the unassailable leader in the industry with quality offerings.
At the peak of the debate over the practicability or not of pay-per-view and pay-as-you-go options in the pay TV industry, MultiChoice Nigeria, owners of pay TV giants, DStv and explained why the Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) and Pay-Per-View (PPV) models aren’t applicable in Nigeria.
Speaking to the members of the House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating non-implementation of the options, Chief Executive Officer, John Ugbe said that implementing Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) was impracticable as the billing model was not technically and commercially feasible in the pay television industry.
He explained that satellite broadcasting is a one-way system and does not enable broadcasters to determine when a subscriber is connected and/or watching or what channel is being viewed unlike telecommunications firms.
“It is only in instances where there is two-way communication between the device at the subscriber’s home and the head-end of the pay-tv service provider, which will enable the provider to determine when a subscriber is connected or not, that a billing system could be designed to take into cognizance the subscriber’s behaviour,” he said.
MultiChoice has designed bouquets for every strata of the society, reflecting its sensitivity to developments in the country, especially the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic and its after-shocks on the economy. This is evident in the several promotional offers which serves as an appreciation and reward for loyal customers and subscribers.
A cursory look at GOtv packages and cost breakdown reflects the liberal nature of the company and its desire not to disenfranchise any strata of the country.
For instance, GOtv Max with over 90 channels attracts N3,600 per month while GOtv Jolli at N2,460 per month offers over 82 channels.
Similarly, GOtv Jinja with over 52 channels attracts N1,640 per month even as GOtv Smallie attracts N800 per month, N2,100 quarterly, N6,200 per year with over 36+ channels!
By every standard, these subscriptions costs are not only liberal, they reflect the humanity in the company’s business model.
It’s often said that businesses that fail to innovate risk extinction.
The company has also continued to invest heavily on innovation through the instrumentality of cutting-edge technology to improve service quality.
As a demonstration of the company’s forward looking business approach and belief in technology, it has taken steps in the area of giving customers efficient self-service options.
Deployment of self-service options
The management of GOtv, desirous of lessening the resort to human factor in resolving issues, has put in place self-service platforms that enable customers to independently manage their GOtv accounts online, easily clear error codes, pay or renew subscriptions and upgrade packages thereby reducing the need to physically visit GOtv outlets or dealers.
The self-service platforms are designed to enhance customer experience and allow our customers quick and easy avenues of resolving complaints and enjoy uninterrupted quality entertainment with their families
The various self-service options are My GOtv App, USSD Code *288#, Paga, Quickteller, ATM, Bank Apps, MultiChoice Outlets/Sabi Men, Toll-Free numbers 9mobile:09085330333, MTN:08139842260, Airtel:07080630900, Glo:08117930333
Also, the MyGOtv app, allows subscribers to clear error codes, check account balances, renew subscriptions, change packages, and update their details, thereby reducing the need to physically visit GOtv outlets or dealers.
Similarly, MultiChoice encourages customers to take advantage of the toll-free customer care lines, which put them in direct contact with GOtv customer care representatives via phone calls or through any of the GOtv social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram) and via its website.
Another initiative worthy of mention here is the enhancement of the functionality of its decoders.
Enhanced decoder functionality
GOtv Nigeria introduced an Enhanced Decoder Notification (EDN) functionality to keep its customers informed and in control of their viewing experience.
This EDN functionality refers to a set of icons that appear on the screen containing valuable information like how many viewing days are left before a customer’s next payment is due, the latest special offers and discounts, and information on new content, campaigns, and campaigns and upcoming celebrations.
Customers can access this information by pressing the “okay” button on their remote, followed by “messages” on the menu bar, and then use the arrow keys to scroll through the different messages. With this new EDN service, customers will have fewer interruptions whilst viewing.
Audio, picture quality
Though the deployment of satellite technology through which cable television signals are transmitted are subject to the vagaries of the natural elements, through adequate investment on the latest technologies, GOtv’s picture and audio quality are of high definition.
So even when it rains, the signal strength usually remains strong enough to provide high quality audio and video images. But the customer needs to hire one of the installers trained by Multichoice to pin-point signal before mounting the antenna.
Any wonder GOtv is the preferred choice of many customers in the country.
Iya Eniola, mother of three and resident of Abesan Estate, Lagos, said a friend introduced her to GOtv when the other pay tv station was not offering her dependable services.
“Before I switched to GOtv, I was using the other service provider. My experience was horrible. For instance, any time an aircraft flies above my apartment, my decoder will stop transmission and one funny blue object will cover my screen. But since I switched to GOtv, my viewing experience has been redefined. Aside its affordability, customer care service is superb,” she said, adding that she’s so thrilled by the size of the decoder that came with her packages.
Since affordability, availability, accessibility and good quality services remain the touchstone of GOtv, it’s only natural that more customers will continue to patronise the pay tv service providers.
It’s hoped too that the company will not rest on its oars but continue to expand capacity to accommodate the expected surge in subscribers’ figures.
