Govs, speakers of state assemblies holding emergency meeting at Aso Rock

Governors and speakers of state assemblies are currently meeting at the old banquet hall of the presidential villa in Abuja.

Abdulaziz Yari, governor of Zamfara state and chairman of the Nigerian governors’ forum (NGF), is presiding over the meeting.

It is coming amid the criticisms which trailed governors’ approval of $1 billion from the excess crude account for the fight against insurgency.

Ayo Fayose, governor of Ekiti, has since distanced himself from the approval, alleging that it would be used for the reelection of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Femi Gbajabiamila, majority leader of the house of representatives, who is a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had said Fayose was right to have challenged the decision of his colleagues.

He also faulted governors for not consulting speakers of state assemblies.
