The federal government on Wednesday announced Monday July 28 and Tuesday July 29, 2014, as public holidays to celebrate Eid-el-fitri, which signifies the end of the Ramadan fasting that commenced on June 28.
In a statement issued by minister of Interior, Abba Moro, the government urged all Nigerians to use the holiday period to reflect on the essence of peace in nation-building.
“All Muslim faithful and Nigerians in general should extend the spiritual benefits of Ramadan, which are love, peace and justice to their daily living and contribute to the development of Nigeria,” the statement read.
The minister wished all Nigerians a “most rewarding and peaceful” celebration. Popularly referred to as a holy month, Ramadan is a period marked by abstinence from worldly activities, including food and drink.
