Yakubu Gowon, retired general and former head of state, wants Nigerians to stop condemning the Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government.

He said the government could not solve the problems of the country or get Nigeria out of recession overnight.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja ahead of Nigeria Prays 20th anniversary, Gowon advised Nigerians to be patient as the government seeks to deal with the problem of recession.

He said: “We pray for better solutions to the problem, we pray that the government will be looking at ways and means to deal with this problem of recession, which I know they are doing and they are cracking their heads.”

“Nigerians are bombarding them with various suggestions on how this can be resolved. Usually, in any government, when you have problems like that, you depend on a number of your advisers who are experts in this field, both within the government and also from outside the government, in order to deal with that particular problem.

“I can assure it is not easy. I can tell you from personal experience, these things are not achieved overnight and a lot of Nigerians expect it to be solved within a day or two.

“I know every effort is being done to deal with this particular problem, and so let us give the federal government that time to make sure we keep reminding them that there is problem and they have to do whatever they can to solve it. And let us cooperate by helping to ensure that government hears the concerns and does something about it.

“Criticise; criticise constructively. Just don’t condemn outright”, he added.

  1. In order words,” I will not bite the finger that fed my mouth, while I was on exile”,quite interesting. Just a different form of corruption. Let us hear another.

  2. Did anybody force Buhari to present himself for the oval office repeatedly for 13 years claiming to have the solution to all Nigerian problems?
The people were asked to be patient as Buhari was taking unnecessary long time in forming his cabinet claiming to be assembling the best hands, coupled with his actions and inactions that drag the country into recession. Now another plea to be patient with him to drag the nation out of the recession he dragged it into. Beautiful

    1. Don’t mind any person asking for more patience with any of our leaders. Would Gowon actually say that Nigerians are not patient?
Nigerians were patient while politicians were busy carting away large sums of our country’s monies. Even now, they are still doing it. I don’t want to hear any one asking for more patience from Nigerians. Of you don’t have anything to say better be quiet.

    2. Your comments depict succinctly your name, Incredible! Do you know what it means to drag a Nation into recession and what it takes? Do you know when Nigeria entered into recession? You however know when recession was pronounced, period! It does the nation lots of good if the citizens, me, you and others can be reasonable with prayers and patience for the country to get out of recession. Any hate is a setback to only the haters. You may not know how much PMB government is positively worth now until it is no more. We now have a positive direction worth working towards for the benefit of the oppressed and the governed. Not a direction where our so called reps will share our common wealth and make majority slaves in their own land.

  3. It would in anycase be an overstatement to ask Buhari to solve any problems any more.It is basically enough if he leaves the problems as they are now and stops creating more.

  4. No person puts him there, he was cried for it,then he grabbed it, what else?? When he knows he can’t handle the nation, she is too bigger than him,he should wake up and do d terrific things but I hope he will do something
