The Florence Modupe Foundation (FMF), a non-governmental organisation, has donated educational and food materials to visually-impaired pupils at the Federal Nigeria Society for the Blind in Oshodi, Lagos state.
In a statement on Monday, Bukola Abitoye, founder of the organisation, said the programme which held during the week is aimed at donating funds towards special projects in the school, as part of the foundation’s activities towards orphanage and the people living with a disability.
She said the foundation donated N450,000 for roadshow sponsorship to bring more visually-impaired people into the institution and build awareness against discrimination of people with disabilities.
Among the items donated include materials for soap making, musical instruments, 500 pieces of exercise books and five bags of rice.”
“Giving back to the society has been part of my life and that was what gave birth to Florence Modupe Foundation. We are working towards children development and education,” Abitoye said.
“We have come to support the special children here. We have come with writing materials, food items and we are also donating towards the campaign against discrimination. We don’t want anyone to discriminate against these people. They are part of us. We want to identify with them and work with them to live a better life.
“This is not just a one-off visit. We want to partner with them. We want to walk along the journey with them and support them from time to time. We will identify their needs and see where we can come in.”
The organisation said it also visited the Lead City University Fashion and Lifestyle Academy in Ibadan, Oyo state, in line with its mission to aid equitable access to quality education and life-changing skills for future leaders.
The FMF said it donated sewing machines, make-up chairs and other fashion equipment to aid the sustainability of the academy which has graduated over 600 hundred students since its establishment.
