A group identified as the Initiative to Save Democracy (ISD) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to extend the tenure of Ibrahim Idris, inspector-general of police.
In a statement, ISD said Idris had recorded worthy successes and deserves an extension of tenure.
“Since his assumption of duty on the 22nd June, 2016 as the 19th indigenous Inspector General of Police, he has been able to reposition the Nigeria Police Force in the area of accountability, responsiveness, responsibility and reliability,” the group said.
“IG Ibrahim Kpotun’s leadership has enabled the adoption of varying and pragmatic crime prevention and reduction strategies across the country, which has resulted in many successes for the Force. The fear of crime and criminalities has also been dealt with through visibility policing, crime prevention and confidence building patrols and police interventions in crime prone areas in the Country.”

“We would also like to highlight IGP Idris’s achievements on Election Security as various successes were recorded on the conduct of governorship and re-run of national assembly elections.
“We will also like to state that if PDP’s President Obasanjo could extend the tenure of IGP Sunday Ehindero by one year and the late President Yar’Adua of blessed memory could also extend the tenure of Mike Okiro till 2010, we urge Mr President to also consider the extension of the tenure of IGP Idris.”
